With its flowing fins and subtle iridescent sheen, this tetra makes an elegant and captivating addition to any tank. African Longfin Tetras are known for their active swimming behaviour, often cruising the middle and upper levels of the tank, adding dynamic movement to the aquarium. Their peaceful nature makes them compatible with a variety of other non-aggressive species, making them a versatile choice for community setups.
Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 72°F - 82°F (22°C - 28°C), pH between 6.5 - 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential to keep your African Longfin Tetras healthy and vibrant.
- Feeding: African Longfin Tetras are omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A varied diet will help maintain their health and enhance their natural colouration.
- Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of open swimming space, as well as areas of plant cover to mimic their natural environment. African Longfin Tetras appreciate a moderate water flow that replicates the rivers of their native habitat. A tank of at least 40 gallons (150 Litres) is recommended to accommodate their active nature and potential size.
- Behaviour: African Longfin Tetras are social fish that do well in groups of six or more. Their schooling behaviour adds a beautiful and coordinated movement to the tank. They are best kept with other similarly sized, peaceful fish and should not be housed with overly aggressive or fin-nipping species.
Perfect for Larger Community and Planted Tanks:
African Longfin Tetras are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a peaceful, active, and visually appealing fish to their larger community or planted tank. Their graceful appearance and lively swimming behaviour make them a rewarding and engaging addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
