Why Choose the Bicolour Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor)?

The Bicolour Blenny is a charming and low-maintenance addition to marine aquariums, combining vibrant colouration with playful behaviour. Its active grazing on algae helps maintain a healthy tank ecosystem, making it both a practical and ornamental choice. This peaceful species coexists well with other tank mates and thrives in environments that offer plenty of rockwork for hiding and perching. The Bicolour Blenny’s unique appearance and personality make it an engaging and rewarding fish to keep.

Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 80°F (24°C - 27°C), pH between 8.1 - 8.4, and salinity levels of 1.023 - 1.025. Regular water changes and efficient filtration are essential for this species’ health.
  • Feeding: Bicolour Blennies are omnivorous and thrive on a balanced diet of high-quality marine flakes or pellets, supplemented with algae-based foods like spirulina and nori. Offer live or frozen treats, such as brine shrimp or mysis shrimp, for variety. Feed 1-2 times daily in small portions.
  • Tank Setup: Provide a tank of at least 20 gallons with plenty of live rock for grazing, hiding, and perching. These blennies appreciate a well-structured environment that mimics their natural habitat. Ensure all tank inhabitants are peaceful to avoid stress or conflict.
  • Behaviour: Bicolour Blennies are generally peaceful and adapt well to community tanks. However, they may display mild territorial behaviour toward other similar-shaped fish, especially in smaller tanks. Their playful darting and perching habits add a lively dynamic to any aquarium.

Perfect for Reef and Community Tanks:

The Bicolour Blenny is an excellent choice for reef and community tanks, offering vibrant colouration, algae-grazing benefits, and a playful personality. Its adaptability and hardy nature make it ideal for aquarists seeking an interactive and low-maintenance species.
