Why Choose Dwarf Gourami?

The Dwarf Gourami is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a splash of colour and tranquility to their aquarium. With its vibrant colours and elegant, flowing fins, this fish quickly becomes the centrepiece of any tank. Dwarf Gouramis are known for their gentle nature and ability to get along well with a wide range of tank mates, including tetras, rasboras, and Corydoras. They are also labyrinth fish, meaning they can breathe air from the surface, which adds an interesting behaviour to observe. Their manageable size and adaptable nature make them suitable for a variety of aquarium setups, from community tanks to dedicated gourami displays.

Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 72°F - 82°F (22°C - 28°C), pH between 6.0 - 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Dwarf Gouramis thrive in well-maintained water with regular changes and gentle filtration.
  • Feeding: Dwarf Gouramis are omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Offering a variety of foods will help enhance their coloration and overall health.
  • Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of live or artificial plants, including floating plants, to offer shelter and mimic their natural habitat. Dwarf Gouramis prefer calm water with minimal current, so ensure that filtration does not create strong water flow. A tank of at least 10 gallons is recommended for a pair or a small group.
  • Behaviour: Dwarf Gouramis are generally peaceful and do well in community settings. However, males can be territorial, especially during breeding, so it is important to provide plenty of hiding spots and space. Keeping one male with several females or just a single male in smaller tanks can help reduce potential aggression.

Perfect for Community and Planted Tanks:

Dwarf Gouramis are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a colourful, peaceful, and easy-to-care-for fish to their community or planted tank. Their vibrant appearance and serene nature make them a delightful and rewarding addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
