Why Choose Desjardini Sailfin Tang?

The Desjardini Sailfin Tang is a fantastic choice for aquarists seeking a large, beautiful, and functional fish for their reef or marine tank. Its intricate pattern and active swimming style make it a dynamic focal point in any aquarium, while its grazing behaviour helps control algae growth. Known for its adaptability, the Desjardini Sailfin Tang thrives in a well-maintained system with plenty of space and a diverse diet. Though it may display territorial tendencies toward other tangs, it coexists well with a variety of peaceful tank mates, making it a versatile addition to marine setups.

Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 82°F (24°C - 28°C), pH between 8.1 - 8.4, and salinity levels of 1.023 - 1.025. Regular water changes and efficient filtration are essential to ensure a healthy environment.
  • Feeding: The Desjardini Sailfin Tang is primarily herbivorous and thrives on a diet rich in algae-based foods, such as spirulina and nori. Supplement their diet with high-quality marine pellets, flakes, and occasional meaty treats like brine shrimp or mysis shrimp. Feeding multiple small meals daily is recommended.
  • Tank Setup: Provide a spacious tank of at least 125 gallons to accommodate their active swimming behaviour and size. Include ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots to help them feel secure. Strong water flow is beneficial to mimic their natural habitat.
  • Behaviour: Desjardini Sailfin Tangs are generally peaceful but can become territorial toward other tangs, especially in smaller tanks. Introduce them to the aquarium last if housing with other tangs to minimise aggression.

Perfect for Reef and Marine Display Tanks:

The Desjardini Sailfin Tang is a stunning addition to any marine aquarium, offering both beauty and functionality. Its algae-grazing habits and striking appearance make it ideal for reef tanks and larger marine setups, where its active swimming can be fully appreciated.
