Why Choose Gold Dust Molly?
The Gold Dust Molly is a fantastic choice for aquarists looking to add a touch of shimmering beauty to their aquarium. Its vibrant gold and black colouration creates a striking contrast, making it a standout addition to any setup. Known for their peaceful nature, Gold Dust Mollies are perfect tank mates for a wide variety of other community fish, including guppies, platies, and tetras. As livebearers, they offer the potential for breeding, which can be an exciting aspect for hobbyists. Their adaptability to different water conditions and their resilience make them an ideal choice for both novice and experienced aquarists.
Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 70°F - 82°F (21°C - 28°C), pH between 7.0 - 8.5, and moderately hard to hard water. Gold Dust Mollies are adaptable but thrive best in slightly alkaline, hard water conditions. Regular water changes and proper filtration are essential.
- Feeding: Gold Dust Mollies are omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Including vegetable matter, such as blanched spinach, peas, or spirulina flakes, will help maintain their vibrant coloration and overall health.
- Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of live or artificial plants to offer shelter and breeding sites. Gold Dust Mollies appreciate open swimming spaces and a moderate water flow. A tank of at least 20 gallons is recommended to accommodate their active nature and potential breeding.
- Behaviour: Gold Dust Mollies are social and thrive in groups. It’s recommended to keep a mix of males and females, with a higher ratio of females to males to reduce stress and potential aggression. They are ideal tank mates for other peaceful species like swordtails, platies, and Corydoras.
Perfect for Community and Species-Specific Tanks:
Gold Dust Mollies are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a colourful, easy-to-care-for, and peaceful fish to their community or species-specific tank. Their shimmering appearance and lively nature make them a delightful and rewarding addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
