Why Choose Green Goby (Gobiodon histrio)?

The Green Goby is a charming and low-maintenance fish that brings both colour and functionality to reef aquariums. Its bright green body and occasional blue highlights make it a visually appealing addition, while its preference for coral habitats adds a touch of natural reef behaviour to your tank. The Green Goby is ideal for smaller tanks due to its compact size and adaptability, and its peaceful nature ensures compatibility with a variety of tank mates. This species’ close association with corals makes it a great choice for aquarists looking to create a dynamic and harmonious reef environment.

Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 80°F (24°C - 27°C), pH between 8.1 - 8.4, and salinity levels of 1.023 - 1.025. Regular water changes and high water quality are essential for the health of this species.
  • Feeding: Green Gobies are omnivorous and thrive on a balanced diet of high-quality marine pellets or flakes, supplemented with live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feed 1-2 times daily in small amounts.
  • Tank Setup: Provide a reef tank with plenty of live rock and branching corals, such as Acropora, to mimic the Green Goby’s natural habitat. A tank of at least 10 gallons is suitable for a single goby, but larger tanks are recommended if housing multiple individuals or other fish.
  • Behaviour: Green Gobies are generally peaceful but may become territorial toward other gobies, especially in smaller tanks. They thrive in reef tanks with ample coral cover and are known to perch and shelter within coral branches, creating a natural and symbiotic display.

Perfect for Nano and Reef Tanks:

The Green Goby is an excellent choice for nano and reef aquariums, offering vibrant colouration and a natural reef dynamic. Its compact size, peaceful nature, and adaptability make it an ideal addition for aquarists seeking a unique and manageable species.
