Why Choose Green Tiger Barb?
The Green Tiger Barb is an excellent choice for aquarists seeking a vibrant, active, and relatively easy-to-care-for fish that stands out with its unique colouration. The shimmering green hue of this barb adds a distinct, exotic flair to any tank, while their lively schooling behaviour brings constant motion and energy. When kept in groups of six or more, Green Tiger Barbs exhibit less aggressive tendencies and form tight-knit schools that are both fascinating to watch and beneficial for the fish’s social needs. Their hardy nature and adaptability make them suitable for both beginners and experienced aquarists, and they thrive in a variety of community tank setups alongside similarly robust species.
Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 74°F - 79°F (23°C - 26°C), pH between 6.0 - 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential to keep your Green Tiger Barbs healthy and vibrant.
- Feeding: Green Tiger Barbs are omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. A varied diet will help maintain their bright colouration and overall health.
- Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of open swimming space, as well as areas with plant cover and decorations where the fish can explore and hide. A tank of at least 20 gallons (75 Litres) is recommended to accommodate a school of Green Tiger Barbs. They enjoy moderate water flow, which mimics their natural riverine habitat.
- Behaviour: Green Tiger Barbs are best kept in groups of six or more to minimise aggressive behaviour, such as fin-nipping. In a group, they exhibit playful and interactive behaviours, often chasing each other and swimming in tight formations. They are compatible with similarly sized, robust fish that can handle their energetic nature.
Perfect for Active Community Tanks:
Green Tiger Barbs are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a playful, active, and visually stunning fish to their community tank. Their unique green appearance and lively schooling behaviour make them a captivating and rewarding addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
