Why Choose the Australian Harlequin Tuskfish (Choerodon fasciatus)?

The Australian Harlequin Tuskfish is an excellent choice for aquarists seeking a large, vibrant, and charismatic fish. Its bold colours and active swimming make it a captivating addition to any tank. Known for its hardiness, this species adapts well to various conditions and coexists with other similarly robust fish. While not reef-safe due to its predatory nature, it is a perfect candidate for predator or fish-only setups where its personality and beauty can shine.

Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 80°F (24°C - 27°C), pH between 8.1 - 8.4, and salinity levels of 1.023 - 1.025. Regular water changes and efficient filtration are essential for this active species.
  • Feeding: Harlequin Tuskfish are carnivorous and thrive on a protein-rich diet. Offer high-quality marine pellets and frozen foods such as squid, krill, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood. Feed 2-3 times daily to ensure proper nutrition.
  • Tank Setup: Provide a tank of at least 125 gallons with plenty of live rock for hiding and exploration. This species appreciates open swimming areas and a structured environment to feel secure. A secure lid is recommended, as they can jump.
  • Behaviour: The Australian Harlequin Tuskfish is semi-aggressive and best kept with similarly sized, robust tank mates. It is unsuitable for reef tanks due to its tendency to eat invertebrates and smaller fish.

Perfect for Fish-Only and Predator Tanks:

The Australian Harlequin Tuskfish is a dynamic and visually stunning addition to fish-only and predator tanks. Its bold colours, hardy nature, and active personality make it a standout choice for aquarists seeking a unique and robust species.
