L183 Starlight Pleco 4cm Locally Bred

Native to the rivers and streams of the Amazon Basin, the Starlight Pleco is easily recognised by its dark, almost black body covered in tiny, bright white spots, which resemble stars against a night sky. Why Choose Starlight Pleco (L183)?
The Starlight Pleco is a standout addition to any freshwater aquarium, offering both aesthetic appeal and practical benefits. Its stunning appearance, characterised by bright white spots on a deep black body, makes it a visually captivating species that can serve as a focal point in your tank. In addition to its beauty, the Starlight Pleco plays a vital role in maintaining a clean and healthy aquarium by consuming algae and detritus. Its peaceful nature allows it to coexist harmoniously with a wide range of tank mates, making it a versatile choice for community aquariums.
Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 82°F (24°C - 28°C), pH between 6.0 - 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes are essential to ensure good water quality, as plecos can be sensitive to poor conditions.
- Feeding: While the Starlight Pleco primarily feeds on algae, it should be supplemented with a varied diet that includes high-quality sinking pellets, algae wafers, and fresh vegetables like zucchini, cucumber, and spinach. Ensure the vegetables are weighted down or attached to prevent them from floating away.
- Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of hiding spots such as driftwood, rocks, and caves. These areas not only offer shelter but also serve as surfaces for algae growth, providing a natural food source. A well-planted tank with subdued lighting is ideal for replicating its natural habitat.
- Behaviour: Starlight Plecos are generally nocturnal and prefer to stay hidden during the day, becoming more active during the evening and night. Providing them with a calm environment and minimal disturbance will encourage natural behaviour.
Perfect for Community and Planted Tanks:
The Starlight Pleco is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a beautiful, algae-eating catfish to their community or planted tank. Its unique appearance and peaceful demeanour make it a standout species that can enhance both the aesthetics and the health of your aquarium.
