Why Choose Neon Praecox Rainbow?
The Neon Praecox Rainbow is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a splash of colour and energy to their aquarium. Their brilliant blue bodies and contrasting red or orange fins create a mesmerising effect, especially when kept in schools of six or more, where they display their full potential. Unlike larger rainbowfish species, the Neon Praecox remains compact, making it suitable for smaller tanks while still offering the vibrant visual appeal of its larger relatives. Their peaceful nature ensures they coexist well with a variety of other community fish, making them an ideal addition to planted or mixed-species setups.
Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 72°F - 82°F (22°C - 28°C), pH between 6.0 - 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes and good filtration are important to keep your Neon Praecox Rainbows healthy and vibrant.
- Feeding: Neon Praecox Rainbows are omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality flakes or micro pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A varied diet will help maintain their vibrant coloration and overall health.
- Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of plants, such as Java fern or Anubias, to offer shelter and create a natural environment. Neon Praecox Rainbows are active swimmers and appreciate open swimming areas. A tank of at least 20 gallons is recommended to accommodate their schooling behaviour.
- Behaviour: Neon Praecox Rainbows are social fish that thrive in groups of at least 6 individuals. Their schooling behaviour is not only beautiful to watch but also helps them feel secure. They are peaceful and get along well with other similarly sized, non-aggressive tank mates, including tetras, rasboras, and Corydoras.
Perfect for Community and Planted Tanks:
Neon Praecox Rainbows are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a dazzling, peaceful, and easy-to-care-for fish to their community or planted tank. Their vibrant appearance and active nature make them a captivating and rewarding addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
