Their striking black stripe and silver body make them stand out in any tank, while their active schooling behaviour adds a lively dynamic. Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 72°F - 82°F (22°C - 28°C), pH between 6.0 - 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes and good filtration are important to keep your Penguin Tetras healthy and active.
- Feeding: Penguin Tetras are omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A varied diet will help maintain their health and vibrant appearance.
- Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of live or artificial plants to offer shelter and create a natural environment. Penguin Tetras enjoy open swimming spaces, so ensure there is ample room for them to school and explore. A tank of at least 20 gallons (75 Litres) is recommended to accommodate a small school.
- Behaviour: Penguin Tetras are social fish that thrive in groups of at least six individuals. Their schooling behaviour is essential for their sense of security and adds a beautiful, coordinated movement to the tank. They are peaceful and make excellent tank mates for other similarly sized, non-aggressive species like tetras, rasboras, and Corydoras.
Perfect for Community and Planted Tanks:
Penguin Tetras are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a peaceful, active, and easy-to-care-for fish to their community or planted tank. Their distinctive appearance and lively schooling behaviour make them a captivating and rewarding addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
