Why Choose the Quoyi Parrotfish (Scarus quoyi)?
The Quoyi Parrotfish is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a vibrant and functional fish to their aquarium. Its bold colours make it a standout feature, while its grazing behaviour helps control algae, promoting a healthy tank environment. This peaceful species thrives in larger setups where it has ample room to swim and graze. With its unique appearance and beneficial habits, the Quoyi Parrotfish is both a decorative and practical addition to your marine aquarium.
Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 80°F (24°C - 27°C), pH between 8.1 - 8.4, and salinity levels of 1.023 - 1.025. Regular water changes and excellent filtration are essential for this large and active species.
- Feeding: Quoyi Parrotfish are herbivorous and require a diet rich in algae. Provide seaweed sheets, spirulina-based foods, and natural algae growth within the tank. Supplemental feedings of high-quality marine pellets or flakes can help meet their nutritional needs. Feed 2-3 times daily in small portions.
- Tank Setup: A tank of at least 180 gallons is recommended for a single Quoyi Parrotfish. Include plenty of live rock for grazing and a structured layout that provides both open swimming areas and sheltered spots.
- Behaviour: Peaceful and social, the Quoyi Parrotfish is best housed with other non-aggressive tank mates. It is reef-safe with caution, as its grazing habits may inadvertently disturb corals.
Perfect for Large Reef and Community Tanks:
The Quoyi Parrotfish is an ideal addition to large reef and community tanks, offering bold colouration, peaceful behaviour, and algae-grazing benefits. Its active swimming and unique appearance make it a standout feature in spacious aquariums.
