Why Choose Red Eye Tetra?
The Red Eye Tetra is an excellent choice for aquarists seeking a hardy, active, and visually appealing fish that thrives in community settings. Their distinctive red eyes and reflective silver bodies make them a subtle yet striking addition to any tank. Red Eye Tetras are known for their strong schooling behaviour, which not only enhances the visual dynamics of the aquarium but also promotes their well-being. Their peaceful temperament ensures they get along well with a variety of other community fish, making them a versatile choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists.
Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 72°F - 80°F (22°C - 27°C), pH between 6.0 - 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes and good filtration are important to keep your Red Eye Tetras healthy and active.
- Feeding: Red Eye Tetras are omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality flakes or pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A varied diet will help maintain their health and vibrant appearance.
- Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of live or artificial plants to offer shelter and create a natural environment. Red Eye Tetras enjoy open swimming spaces, so ensure there is ample room for them to school and explore. A tank of at least 20 gallons (75 Litre) is recommended to accommodate a small school.
- Behaviour: Red Eye Tetras are social fish that thrive in groups of at least six individuals. Their schooling behaviour is essential for their well-being and adds a dynamic and coordinated movement to the tank. They are peaceful and make excellent tank mates for other similarly sized, non-aggressive species like tetras, rasboras, and Corydoras.
Perfect for Community and Planted Tanks:
Red Eye Tetras are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a peaceful, active, and easy-to-care-for fish to their community or planted tank. Their subtle beauty and lively nature make them a delightful and rewarding addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
