Why Choose Royal Bolivian Ram?

The Royal Bolivian Ram is a top choice for aquarists seeking a colourful, peaceful, and manageable cichlid species. Its striking appearance, with a mix of bright colours and a distinctive body pattern, makes it a beautiful centrepiece in any community or planted tank. Unlike many other cichlids, Bolivian Rams are known for their gentle nature, making them excellent tank mates for a variety of other peaceful species, including tetras, rasboras, and other small fish. Their relatively small size and easy-going demeanour make them accessible to both novice and experienced aquarists.

Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 74°F - 80°F (23°C - 27°C), pH between 6.5 - 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes and good filtration are important to ensure the health and well-being of your Royal Bolivian Ram.
  • Feeding: The Royal Bolivian Ram is omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality cichlid pellets or flakes, supplemented with live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. They also enjoy grazing on small invertebrates or plants in a well-maintained tank.
  • Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of plants, driftwood, and caves to offer shelter and mimic their natural habitat. Bolivian Rams prefer a soft, sandy substrate where they can sift through the sand in search of food. A well-planted tank with gentle lighting will help them feel secure and display their best colours.
  • Behaviour: Bolivian Rams are peaceful and enjoy living in pairs or small groups. They are less territorial than other cichlids, but it’s still important to provide enough space and hiding spots to minimise any potential conflicts, especially during breeding.

Perfect for Community and Planted Tanks:

The Royal Bolivian Ram is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a peaceful, colourful, and manageable cichlid to their community or planted tank. Their gentle nature and vibrant appearance make them a valuable and rewarding addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
