Why Choose Rummynose Tetra?
The Rummynose Tetra is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a unique, peaceful, and easy-to-care-for fish to their aquarium. Its bright red head, contrasted by a sleek silver body and bold black and white tail, makes it a striking addition to any tank. Rummynose Tetras are known for their tight schooling behaviour, which not only enhances the visual appeal of the aquarium but also promotes their well-being. These tetras are also valued for their sensitivity to water conditions, often showing changes in colour as an early warning of water quality issues, making them both beautiful and practical inhabitants of any aquarium.
Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 82°F (24°C - 28°C), pH between 6.0 - 7.0, and soft to moderately hard water. Rummynose Tetras prefer slightly acidic, soft water, so regular water changes and careful monitoring of water quality are recommended.
- Feeding: Rummynose Tetras are omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality flakes or micro pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A varied diet will help maintain their vibrant colouration and overall health.
- Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of live or artificial plants to offer shelter and create a natural environment. Rummynose Tetras thrive in dimly lit tanks that mimic their natural habitat, so consider using floating plants or adjustable lighting. A tank of at least 20 gallons (75 Litres) is recommended for a small school.
- Behaviour: Rummynose Tetras are social fish that thrive in groups of at least six individuals. Their schooling behaviour is essential for their sense of security and adds a beautiful, coordinated movement to the tank. They are peaceful and make excellent tank mates for other small, non-aggressive species like tetras, rasboras, and Corydoras.
Perfect for Community and Planted Tanks:
Rummynose Tetras are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a peaceful, visually striking, and moderately easy-to-care-for fish to their community or planted tank. Their unique appearance and lively schooling behaviour make them a rewarding and captivating addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
