Why Choose the Scopas Tang (Zebrasoma scopas)?

The Scopas Tang is a fantastic choice for aquarists looking to add a functional and visually appealing fish to their aquarium. Its subtle colouration allows it to blend seamlessly with natural reef setups, while its grazing habits help maintain a clean and balanced tank environment. Peaceful and hardy, the Scopas Tang thrives in a variety of setups, making it suitable for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike. Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 82°F (24°C - 28°C), pH between 8.1 - 8.4, and salinity levels of 1.023 - 1.025. Regular water changes and efficient filtration are essential for keeping this species healthy.
  • Feeding: Scopas Tangs are herbivorous and thrive on a diet rich in algae and seaweed. Offer high-quality marine pellets, spirulina, and nori sheets. Supplement their diet with occasional meaty treats like mysis shrimp or brine shrimp. Feed small portions multiple times daily.
  • Tank Setup: Provide a tank of at least 75 gallons with ample live rock for grazing and open swimming spaces. Strong water flow replicates their natural habitat and supports their active nature.
  • Behaviour: Scopas Tangs are generally peaceful and cohabit well with other non-aggressive fish. They may show mild territorial behaviour toward other tangs in smaller tanks. Introduce them to larger tanks to minimise aggression and create a harmonious environment.
