Why Choose the Tomato Clownfish (Amphiprion frenatus)?
The Tomato Clownfish is an excellent choice for aquarists looking for a hardy, active, and brightly coloured fish. Its striking appearance and engaging personality make it a standout in any marine aquarium. While it can be territorial, especially as it matures, it is a fantastic species for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Unlike some clownfish species, it adapts well to a variety of tank conditions and is relatively easy to pair with an anemone.
Care Tips:
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 80°F (24°C - 27°C), pH between 8.1 - 8.4, and salinity levels of 1.023 - 1.025. Regular water changes help ensure optimal health.
- Feeding: Tomato Clownfish thrive on an omnivorous diet. Provide high-quality marine pellets or flakes, supplemented with frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and plankton. Feed 1-2 times daily.
- Tank Setup: A tank of at least 30 gallons is recommended for a single or paired Tomato Clownfish. If pairing with an anemone, a larger tank (50+ gallons) with strong lighting is ideal. Provide live rock structures for shelter and territory establishment.
- Behaviour: Semi-aggressive, especially towards other clownfish or similar-looking species. Best kept singly or as a bonded pair, and can coexist with other peaceful to moderately aggressive fish in a community setup.
Perfect for Reef and Community Tanks:
The Tomato Clownfish is a vibrant and hardy addition to reef and community tanks, offering a splash of colour and engaging behaviours. Its compatibility with anemones makes it a favourite among marine aquarists looking for a natural symbiotic relationship in their aquarium.
