Why Choose the Tomini Tang (Ctenochaetus tominiensis)?

The Tomini Tang is a perfect choice for aquarists seeking a functional and colourful fish that helps maintain tank cleanliness. Its algae-grazing behaviour supports a balanced ecosystem, while its compact size makes it suitable for medium-sized tanks. With its striking appearance and peaceful nature, this tang coexists well with other fish in a community tank, making it a versatile and valuable addition to your aquarium.

Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 80°F (24°C - 27°C), pH between 8.1 - 8.4, and salinity levels of 1.023 - 1.025. Regular water changes and efficient filtration are essential for this active species.
  • Feeding: Tomini Tangs are herbivorous and thrive on a diet rich in algae. Provide nori sheets, spirulina-based foods, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes. Natural algae growth in the tank will also supplement their diet. Feed 2-3 times daily in small portions.
  • Tank Setup: A tank of at least 70 gallons is recommended, with plenty of live rock for grazing and open swimming areas. This tang appreciates a structured environment with hiding spots and caves.
  • Behaviour: The Tomini Tang is peaceful and well-suited for community tanks. It may exhibit mild territorial behaviour towards other tangs, so it is best housed with fish of differing shapes and sizes to minimise conflicts.

Perfect for Reef and Community Tanks:

The Tomini Tang is an excellent addition to reef and community tanks, offering algae-grazing benefits, peaceful behaviour, and vibrant colouration. Its manageable size and hardy nature make it a favourite among aquarists.
