Why Choose the Undulatus Triggerfish (Balistapus undulatus)?

The Undulatus Triggerfish is an excellent choice for aquarists looking for a bold and striking fish to anchor their marine display. Its vibrant colours and unique patterning make it a focal point in any aquarium, while its active and inquisitive behaviour ensures it remains engaging to watch. Due to its aggressive nature, this species thrives in predator or semi-aggressive setups with similarly robust tank mates. For aquarists with the space and experience to accommodate its needs, the Undulatus Triggerfish is a truly rewarding addition.

Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 75°F - 80°F (24°C - 27°C), pH between 8.1 - 8.4, and salinity levels of 1.023 - 1.025. Regular water changes and efficient filtration are crucial for maintaining water quality.
  • Feeding: Undulatus Triggerfish are carnivorous and require a protein-rich diet. Offer high-quality marine pellets, live or frozen foods such as shrimp, squid, and krill, and finely chopped seafood. Feed 2-3 times daily to support their active metabolism.
  • Tank Setup: Provide a tank of at least 125 gallons with ample rockwork for shelter and exploration. Ensure there is plenty of open swimming space for this active species. A secure lid is recommended, as triggerfish are known to jump.
  • Behaviour: The Undulatus Triggerfish is aggressive and should be housed with similarly sized, robust tank mates. It is not reef-safe and may prey on invertebrates or smaller fish. Avoid housing with timid or delicate species to prevent stress.

Perfect for Predator and Fish-Only Tanks:

The Undulatus Triggerfish is a dynamic and visually striking addition to predator and fish-only tanks. Its bold colours, active nature, and hardy disposition make it a top choice for aquarists seeking a standout species.
