Native to the streams and rivers of Central America, these platies are known for their wide variety of colour patterns, ranging from bright oranges and reds to blues and greens, often with striking black markings. Their peaceful nature, combined with their ability to thrive in a wide range of water conditions, makes them an ideal choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Why Choose Variatus Platy?

The Variatus Platy is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a colourful, active, and hardy fish to their aquarium. Available in a wide range of vibrant colours and patterns, these fish bring a lively dynamic to any tank. Their peaceful nature makes them compatible with a variety of other community fish, and their ease of care makes them perfect for beginners. Variatus Platies are also prolific breeders, providing an opportunity for aquarists to observe the fascinating process of livebearing reproduction. Their adaptability to different water conditions and temperatures further enhances their appeal.

Care Tips:

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 70°F - 78°F (21°C - 26°C), pH between 7.0 - 8.0, and moderately hard to hard water. Variatus Platies are quite adaptable but thrive best in well-maintained water with regular changes.
  • Feeding: Variatus Platies are omnivorous and should be provided with a balanced diet that includes high-quality flakes or micro pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Occasional vegetable matter, such as blanched spinach or spirulina flakes, can also be beneficial.
  • Tank Setup: Provide a tank with plenty of live or artificial plants, such as Java moss or Anubias, to offer shelter and breeding sites. Ensure there is ample open swimming space, as platies are active swimmers. A gentle to moderate water flow is preferred.
  • Behaviour: Variatus Platies are social fish and do well in groups. It’s recommended to keep a mix of males and females, but be aware that males can be persistent in their pursuit of females, so a higher ratio of females to males can help reduce stress. They are ideal tank mates for other peaceful fish such as tetras, guppies, and Corydoras.

Perfect for Community and Species-Specific Tanks:

Variatus Platies are an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a hardy, colourful, and low-maintenance fish to their community or species-specific tank. Their vibrant appearance and easy-going nature make them a delightful and rewarding addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
